Adrian Wayne Hoff

Adrian Wayne Hoff was born in Viroqua, WI on August 3, 1960 to Darrel B. Hoff and Ardith J. (Gardner) Hoff. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 16, 2026.

The family moved to Cedar Falls, IA in 1964. Adrian graduated from Price Laboratory High School in Cedar Falls, in 1978. He attended the University of Northern Iowa majoring in social work.  There he met Peggy Ann Colvin, and they were married on August 30, 1986. The couple lived and worked in Cedar Rapids, IA for two years and then moved to Decorah, IA where Peggy was employed as a social worker and Adrian worked for Domino’s Pizza and then managed a Dairy Queen. He later became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) working at Aase Haugen nursing home.  They moved to Winona, MN where Peggy advanced in her social work career and Adrian worked at Watkins Nursing Home. Later, he was employed as a para-professional in the Winona High School in the Special Ed. Dept. for nine years. Adrian was also a volunteer Fire Fighter in the Hidden Valley Fire Dept. where they lived.  He belonged to a clown club and did magic tricks for kids in hospitals.

Due to both Adrian and Peggy’s chronic mental and physical health challenges, the couple moved to Waterloo, IA to be closer to Peggy’s family and their best friends from College, Julie and Gary Snyder, with whom they enjoyed playing board games, traveling and watching Green Bay Packer’s football and Minnesota Timberwolves basketball games. Peggy died on August 31, 2004. In 2006 Adrain moved to Fayette and then Calmar, IA to be closer to his parents. In 2014, Adrian moved to Viroqua with his mother and has lived here, on his own, with support from the Family and Children’s Center, My Choice Wisconsin, and Bethel Home and services as well as friendly and helpful neighbors, family and friends.  His mother has been his most devoted health advocate, supporter and friend.

Adrian happily occupied himself with his long-time hobby of mastering magic tricks, which he enjoyed performing for others. He loved to sail and as a young man owned a small sailboat.  He recently enjoyed sailing with his friend Bryn Hawklove on Lake Onalaska. Adrian faithfully attended the Westby United Methodist Church where his favorite tradition was saying, “God is good, all the time.  All the time, God is good.”  He enjoyed shopping at the Big Red shed in Westby as well as Crazy Franks in Readstown. Adrian loved music and was interested in many topics.  He was always eager to learn new things.  He was friendly and gregarious and was well liked by all who knew him. He loved treating neighborhood dogs, with their owner’s permission.  Adrian loved animals and owned many pets over his lifetime, including rabbits, a snake, and a pair of Scotty dogs.

Adrian was preceded in death by his wife Peggy (Colvin) Hoff, his Father Dr. Darrel Hoff, his paternal grandparents Walter and Agnes (Nelson) Hoff, his maternal grandparents, Melvin and Clara (Skildum) Gardner, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  He is survived by his mother Dr. Ardith Hoff, his sister Andrea (Andi) Hoff, her husband Ron Haight and their two grown sons Sean and Neil Haight, all living in the Austin, TX area. He is also survived by numerous cousins and other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life is being held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Westby United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Lee officiating.  A visitation is being held from 9:00 AM until time of service.  Burial will take place at a later date.
