Alice Mae Diehl, loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 3, 2022, at her home in Viroqua at the age of 81.
Alice was born April 21, 1941, in Martintown, WI, to Harold and Leona (Heiler) Blasing.
She graduated from Lena, IL, High School in 1959. Alice went to Northern Illinois University and started teaching Physical Education in Polo, IL, where she met her loving husband, Leland. Leland and Alice were married September 25, 1965, at the Methodist Church in Lena, IL. They started a family in Polo, IL, and moved to Viroqua in 1977 to start farming. Alice was very active in the lives of others: she taught preschool, Sunday School, Girl Scouts, 4-H where she was inducted into the Emerald Club for 30-years of leadership, was an election poll worker for many years, an active member of the homemaker’s group, and volunteered for years as a reading assistant at the Liberty Pole School. Alice worked for N.A.S.S. (National Agricultural Statistics Service) for over 20 years. She stopped working when she developed pancreatic cancer in 2013. Alice was a two-time survivor of cancer.
Family was everything to Alice. She enjoyed attending her kids and grandkids sporting events. She loved photography, gardening, bowling, supporting WI sporting events, and cooking.
Alice is survived by her husband; four children: Leanna (John) Krause of La Crosse and their four children, Mattie Mae, Alicia, Joshua, and Ava; Dan (Karen) Diehl of Viroqua and their two sons, Michael and Steven; Andy (Renae) Diehl of Viroqua and their four daughters, Abagail, Rachel, Angela, and Trista; and Dave (fiancé Angie) Diehl of Apple Valley, MN and their three children, Sam, Nick, and Ruby; sisters, Barbara Harbach of Warren, IL and Pat Kent of Winslow, IL ; brother LaVern (Phyllis) Blasing of Lena, IL; brother-in-law Harold (Rae Lynn) Diehl of Polo, IL; sister-in-law Dr. Aileen Diehl of Polo, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Archie and Loretta Diehl, sister-in-law Berdena Diehl; and brothers-in-law, Eldon Kent and Bill Harbach.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at noon at the Liberty Pole United Methodist Church with Pastor Carter Jorgensen officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022, at the Liberty Pole United Methodist Church from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and again, on Saturday at 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place at the Liberty Pole Cemetery following the service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to St Croix Hospice, special friends Barb Robson, Barb Solverson, Brad and Janna Thew, and Kim Getter.
In Lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to go to the American Cancer Society or Liberty Pole United Methodist Church.
