Betty Lou Cox, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua, WI. She was born on April 22, 1927, to Phillip Ray and Eva (Seymour) Janet Torgerson.
She married Maurice Glen Cox on August 11, 1948, at the Methodist Parsonage in De Soto, WI.
Betty kept herself busy with baking, sewing, going to rummage sales, and camping. She loved to teach her grandchildren and great grandchildren everything she could about baking, canning, and keeping a good clean home. She took great delight traveling with her loving husband and family all around the United States. In 1957 Betty and Glen sold their farm in De Soto and moved to Waupun, WI.
Betty was a homemaker, taking care of her children until they were enrolled in school. She then took to working in the Waupun Laundry for several years. When Glen retired, they purchased a motorhome and hit the open road.
She is survived by her sons, Michael K. (Teresa) Cox of Beaver Dam and Maynard L. (Nancy) Cox of De Soto; several grandchildren; step grandchildren; great grandchildren; two sisters, Joann (Layton) Scott of Memphis, Tennessee and Ila Lee of Mt. Sterling; sisters-in-law, Jill Torgerson and Lila Torgerson of Rockford, Illinois; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; her stepson Danny in 2018; as well as parents; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the North West Prairie Lutheran Church at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Timothy Dunham officiating. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Interment will take place at the Walnut Mound Cemetery.
