Carol Jean Peterson

Carol Jean Peterson, 67, passed away on April 7, 2024. She was born on March 19, 1957, in Viroqua, WI to Clarence and Elizabeth “Jean” Peterson. Her work career included years at the Douglas Mental Health Center in WI Rapids, the Family and Children Center in Viroqua, and Organic Valley.

Carol enjoyed spending time with her family and loved attending her grandson’s sports and activities. She was an avid outdoor enthusiast with a deep respect for nature. She found joy in giving back to the community and volunteered on the Viroqua Area Hockey Association Board where she helped the association obtain an NHL Grant in 2001. Most recently, Carol was known for her role on the Driftless Humane Society Board of Directors where she contributed her passion for animal welfare. Carol was also an avid Packer Fan and enjoyed catching any NHL game she could. Other hobbies included spending time with her cats (Bootsie, Lily, and Pepper), listening to Gordon Lightfoot, and her annual travels to Cozumel, Mexico.

She is survived by her children, Christopher and Ava Freiseis; grandchild Landon Freiseis; siblings: Harley (Sue) Peterson, Ronald (Pat) Johnson, and Chuck (Julie) Peterson; and nieces/nephews and their families: Kraig Peterson, Kara, Elwood and Kellar Whitaker, Erik & Amanda, Madelyn and Max Johnson, Ryan Johnson & Alexandreia, Keith & Dawn, Jessica, James and Jeremy Erickson, Karl and Jaycee Erickson, Brenda, Savanna, and Luke Erickson, Brett and Israel Ostrem, Tracy & Jason and Sawyer Trahan, Liz Fagen and Hannah Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie Lubbe; parents Clarence and Jean Peterson; sister Cindy (Arnie) Erickson; sister Christine Peterson; and niece Sarah Johnson.

Carol will be deeply missed but forever remembered by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance and celebration of Carol. A visitation will be held from 10-12:30 on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Viroqua Eagles with a Memorial at 12:30. A lunch and  Celebration of Life will directly follow downstairs after the Memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Driftless Humane Society.
