Cathy M. Hanson

Cathleen “Cathy” May Hanson, 69, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at her home in Viroqua.

She was born on August 23, 1952, to Donald and Iris (White) Rice.  Cathy married Roger Hanson on August 29, 1970, at Retreat United Methodist Church.

Cathy loved spending time with her family, loved golfing with her husband begging him regularly to go.  She looked forward to springtime where she could plant flowers, getting the yard ornaments out, and mowing the lawn with Roger.  Her favorite hobbies included:  decorating for every season/holiday, crafting, going to rummage sales, shopping, baking, and cooking big meals for her family.  She loved being a part of and planning big celebrations.  She was delighted if she could make the punch and beef and noodles. 

She had special friends that she met working at Walmart.  Cathy really enjoyed getting together with them to celebrate birthdays and special occasions.  She was truly a caring, loving, wonderful spirit to everyone she loved and cared for.  Even after death, she helped people by being a donor and saving people she never met.     

She is survived by her husband, Roger A. Hanson; daughter Jenn (Todd) Swiggum; son Jon Hanson; eight grandchildren: Dominque (Brandon) Munyon, Tyson (Samantha Johnson) Lancaster, Ella Swiggum, Alex Johnson, Justice Hanson, Johnathan Hanson, Jennafer Hanson, and Alyssa Lincoln; several great grandchildren; siblings: Donald (Tina) Rice, Alice LaBarro, Beverly Sonnenberg, Jim (Marge) Rice, Ken (Rita) Rice, Karen (Robert) Lay, Conrad (Lynnette) Rice, Deborah (Randy) Rice-Viner, Dennis Rice, and David Rice; her husband’s family: John (Robin Henchen) Hanson, Deldon (Carol) Hanson, LoAnn (Dale Kromke) Beach, Reuben Jr. (Sara) Hanson, and Rosemary Hanson.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Iris and Donald Rice; in-laws Reuben and Emma Hanson; infant sister, Patsy Rice; brothers-in-law: Butch La Barro, Dick Sonnenberg, and Ronald Hanson; sister-in-law Kathy Hanson; nephews, Timmy Rice and Dan Sonnenberg; and niece Kim Meyer.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Retreat United Methodist Church with Pastor Carter officiating.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of the service.  A luncheon will follow at the Retreat Sportsman's Club.  Inurnment will take place at the Walnut Mound Cemetery at a later date.
