November 10, 1951 – May 28, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cheryl Kohl, who left this world on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on November 10, 1951, Cheryl grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, where she began a life marked by warmth, strength, and unmistakable spirit. Cheryl was the beloved daughter of Mary and Melvin Thierer, who preceded her in death. She shared a special bond with her sister Cathy and maintained a connection with her brothers, Chuck and Craig, over the years.
She shared many years with her ex-husband and dear friend, Gary Kohl, and together they raised four cherished children: Keri (husband David), Dustin (wife Tamie), Eric, and Danielle (husband Bill). Cheryl was a proud and loving grandmother to Shane, Brandon, Lauren, Kiana, Eleanor, and Walker, each of whom brought her immense joy.
Known for her caring heart, spunky personality, and stubborn streak, Cheryl faced life’s challenges with humor and resilience. Even in her final days, she was cracking jokes and bringing smiles to those around her. After a prolonged struggle with health issues, Cheryl has found peace. She is now with God, no longer suffering, and embraced in eternal rest.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to know her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and strength will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Cheryl by sharing a story, a laugh, or a kind gesture with someone in need—just as she so often did.
Rest well, Cheryl. You were one of a kind.
