Cynthia Anne (Brooks) Boudreau, age 69, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023, at home in La Farge, WI, after a brief but fierce battle with lung cancer. Cynthia was born on April 7, 1954, to Joseph and Dorothy Brooks in Zanesville, OH. She moved to Stevens Point, WI with her family at the age of seven, and lived in various parts of the state for the majority of her life. She married Timothy Boudreau on July 25, 1992, at the UW Arboretum in Madison, WI, and they had two daughters.
Anyone who knew Cynthia would remember her kindness, sense of humor, and generous spirit. She loved making, giving, and receiving small, meaningful gifts that spoke to the little details you notice in the people you love. When it came to putting together the finishing touches that make a house a home, Cynthia was second to none, and had an incredible eye for design that helped her create beautiful vignettes from her collections of books, textiles, pottery, and glassware.
Cynthia came from a long line of fiber artisans, learning from her mother, grandmother, and older sister, and passed on her skills to both of her daughters. Although knitting was her favorite, she had a great appreciation and fascination for crafting and folk art of all mediums, taking an interest in the art and artisans alike. Another of Cynthia’s passions was books and reading - she worked as a professional book seller for many years, acting as the liaison between a book wholesaler and schools, and had an extensive book collection of her own. This love of the written word extended to a love of words in general, and she always enjoyed crossword puzzles and funny or clever wordplay.
Cynthia had a great love for nature, especially clouds, autumn’s colors and temperatures, foggy mornings, and water in all its wild forms like rain, rivers, lakes, snowstorms, and the ocean. She loved spending time outside and enjoyed identifying the plants, birds, and animals around her. Finally, Cynthia had a great love for all animals, but especially cats, and over the years she provided a wonderful home to many felines, including Yuri, Chester, Gorey, Bosco, Sophie, Dusty, Moky, Ratty, and the family’s current kitties Muguet, Hibou, Charley, and Harry.
Cynthia is survived by her husband Tim; her daughters Ivy (Will Webb) of Washington, DC and Bailey of Madison, WI; six siblings: Patricia (Michael) Gaska of Rothschild, WI, Thomas Brooks of Stevens Point, WI, David Brooks of Marathon City, WI, Gregory Brooks of Stevens Point, WI, Anthony (Cynthia) Brooks of Waterford, WI, and Martin Brooks of Las Vegas, NV.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Dorothy Brooks.
A small memorial service will be held on the Wisconsin River near Stevens Point, WI, on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
The Roth Family Cremation Center and Funeral Services is serving the family.
