Darlene “Mae” O’Connor, 93, of Viroqua, passed away on Saturday, July 15th, 2023, at the Vernon Manor in Viroqua. She was born May 9th, 1930, to Sylvan and Irene (Lieurance) Weber.
She graduated from Viroqua High School. She received an Elementary Education Certificate from the Vernon County Teachers College and taught in a one room schoolhouse.
She married Jim O’Connor on January 22, 1949. They had four children. Mae and Jim worked at the family business, the Viroqua Dairy, which they became owners of in 1970.
Mae was a lifelong member of the Viroqua United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She was a member of the Viroqua Eagles, VFW Auxiliary, and Eastern Star.
Mae loved being outdoors walking, gardening, and taking care of her flowers. She also enjoyed bowling, ceramics, and playing cards and was an avid reader. She loved spending time with family, especially her two granddaughters and five great grandchildren. She loved going to the Vernon County Fair and helping in the Ice Cream Trailor.
After Jims death in 1988, she found great companionship with Gary Hall. They enjoyed traveling, and spending time at his home on the Mississippi River fishing and entertaining friends and family.
She is survived by her son Tim (Nancy), granddaughters; Sara (Joe) Faren and their children: Quintin, Maleah, and Mason; Kayla (Josh) Kaiser and their children: Alexis and Cullen; 2 sisters, Ramona Abbey and Shirley (Bob) Gallagher; 2 brothers, Orvis and Jim Weber; 2 sisters-in-law, Bette Steinbrenner and Patti O’Connor. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jim; her children: Danny, Kevin, and Jane; companion Gary Hall; sisters and brothers-in-law: Myrna Weber, Ross Abbey, Faye Weber, Kathleen Raymond, Mike and Maureen O’Connor, Pat O’Connor, and Al Steinbrenner; niece Susan Abbey, nephew Steven Abbey, and an infant sister Eileen.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the Viroqua United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Erika Martinez-Flores officiating. A visitation will held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Family suggests memorials to the Viroqua United Methodist Church or the Driftless Humane Society.
