Darrel “Ray” Raymond Alexander passed away peacefully on Friday, October 22, 2021, with his family by his side.
Ray was born on December 7, 1936, to Darrel A. and Veda (Parr) Alexander. He attended elementary school at Elk Run and Day Creek, and Readstown High School. Ray served in the Army from 1959-1962. He married Kathleen “Nan” McCarthy on February 4, 1960; they were blessed with two children. Ray was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 139 for fifty years. He was employed by Hoffman Construction Company for many years, retiring in 1996. Ray owned a dozer and did construction projects for many people in the local area, including landscape, ponds, and hill roads. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and motorcycle trips.
Ray is survived by his wife; son, Daniel Ray Sr. (Shyla) Alexander of Readstown; daughter, Lori (Brian) Lehmann of Baraboo; five grandchildren: Daniel Ray Jr. (Tawn) Alexander of La Crosse, Thad D. Alexander of Readstown, Bradley J. (Michelle) Alexander of LaFarge, Derek A. (Stephanie) Jensen of Baraboo, Michelle (Nate) Kartman of Sun Prairie; seven great-grandchildren: Tyler and Ethan Jensen, Baren, Everly, Trinity, and Hawken Alexander, and Taylor Kartman; sisters: Elaine Raaum, Lorraine Beeman, and Helen McClurg; brothers-in-law: Bill (Sue) McCarthy of Naperville, IL, Tom (Mary) McCarthy of St. George, UT, and Donald “Jap” (Donna) McCarthy of Richland Center; and many nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws; brothers-in-law: Robert McCarthy, Gerald McCarthy, Harold McCarthy, Alston Raaum, and David Beeman.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the Redemption Chapel. Friends may call on the family from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Military Rites will be provided by Running-Johnson-Ray V.F.W. Post 3032, Jacobson-Olson American Legion Post 138, and the Army Honor Guard. The Roth Family Cremation Center is serving the family.
