David "Dave" Reed

David “Dave” James Reed, age 75, passed away on April 2, 2023, in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Dave was born in Viroqua, WI on May 7, 1947 to Howard Reed and Florence “Peg” (Taylor) Reed.

Dave was a businessman at heart. A good part of his career included his work at K & L Sporting Goods and Jewelry Store on Main Street, Viroqua. The last 25 years of his career he became a realtor and broker and eventually grew his business to become United Country Oakwood Realty. He loved being a realtor, exploring new land for sale and meeting people from all walks of life. He would throw his 4wheeler on the trailer and take people wherever they wanted to go when exploring a new piece of property. It allowed him to be outdoors, his favorite place to be.

He also enjoyed supporting his community and did so in many facets of his life. Remodeling several buildings on main street, volunteering on the Viroqua Fire Department, becoming a certified rescue diver, and a member of the jaws of life team.

Dave lived life to the fullest and loved his family with all he had. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He also enjoyed camping, backpacking, diving, hang gliding and flying. He always enjoyed attending the EAA show in Oshkosh every year. He enjoyed hunting with his kids, his brothers and nephews and later on with his grandkids. He had amazing patience and loved to share his joy of being in nature. He led several youth mission trips through Good Shepherd Lutheran Church by traveling to Montana and the Boundary Waters. Again, helping others to learn and appreciate the beauty of nature.

He is survived by his children, Niki (Jason) Steele of Viroqua, WI and Ryan (Jessie) of Madison, WI; his beloved grandchildren Brody, Ryder, and Finley; his siblings: Tony (Chris) Reed, John (Janet) Reed, Nancy (Doug) McGuire-Moericke; sister-in-law, Mary Reed; Nancy (Lewison) Welch, mother of Niki and Ryan; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeff Reed; and brother-in-law, Mike McGuire. 

We would like to thank Bethel Oaks in Viroqua, St. Croix Hospice, and good friends, Dan Kiedinger and Kathy, for the amazing care and love provided.

The family has chosen to host a Celebration of Life at Sidie Hollow Park shelter on Saturday, May 6. Gathering of friends and family from 11am-1pm and a short prayer service at 1pm.
