Eileen Westerhoff-Young Obituary

A Beautiful Soul Has Left This Earth

Eileen Westerhoff-Young passed away on January 21, 2026. Much beloved mother, wife and friend. During her life, Eileen gave and taught love and compassion. She married Eugene Westerhoff in 1957 and together they raised 6 children in Lansing and Holland, Michigan and Ferryville, Wisconsin. Their home was filled with laughter, song and dancing and they instilled their love of music, dance and humor in their children.

Eileen’s super power was embracing those lucky enough to come within her sphere and making them feel loved, valued and included. She was also a visionary and entrepreneur. She opened a chain of health food stores in Holland in the 1970’s and was sought out for her wisdom and nutritional advice. She taught vegetarian cooking classes and hosted a radio program on that topic, as well.

This lovely being’s green thumb was legendary. Anything she touched grew with her nurturing and she gave great gardening advice. Eileen was widowed from Gene in 1989 and married Charles Young in 1993 and together they became active in the La Crosse Jazz Fest.

In 1995, Eileen completed her master’s in social work at UW-Madison and continued to spread her love and compassion in that field before retiring.

As a member of Women In Black, Eileen stood in protest of injustice and violence in the world. She was very politically active, participating in peaceful rallies, signature collection and canvassing. Always working to make life better for all people.

Eileen was a loving grandmother to 15 wonderful grandchildren and traveled around the country to visit them often. After a stroke in 2011, her children and grandchildren often visited her at her home in Holmen, Wisconsin, She maintained her beautiful outlook on life even though bedridden for over a decade. Always showing appreciation to her caregivers and especially for Chuck, her dear and devoted husband.

Eileen leaves a legacy of Love and Positivity. She will be sincerely missed and every day remembered for her kindness, her uplifting presence and for her contribution to making the earth a more peaceful and loving place.

As per Eileen's request, there will be no formal service. She wished for us all to dance and drink a toast to a life well lived.
