Floyd E. “Mississippi Slim” McKee, was born March 16, 1938, in Viola, WI, to William and Freda (Frye) McKee. He graduated from Viola High School, in 1957. He served in the Navy from 1957 to 1961, and then returned to work at Gisholt Machine Company, as a machinist, until they closed. Floyd then went to work at Oscar Mayer for 30 years, until he retired. In 1985, Floyd and his wife, Darlene “Charlie” purchased the River’s Edge Motel, in Ferryville. After 30 years in the motel business, they sold the motel and moved to their farm on Latham Road.
Floyd and Charlie shared many adventures in their 48 years together, such as: patronizing with their motel customers, boating, fishing, and canoeing on the great Mississippi, turkey and deer hunting, gardening, and canning from their garden, and most of all, spending time on the farm with family (especially their grandchildren).
He was a charter lifetime member of the VFW Post 8483 in Madison, a prior member of the Ferryville Booster Club and Ferryville Fire Department.
Floyd is survived by this wife Darlene “Charlie”; 2 sons: Daniel (Kris) and Dale (Jeanette) both of Madison; 3 grandchildren: Jenna, Kayla, and Jack; his siblings: Gene (Linda) McKee, Donna Egerstaffer (Ben), Richard McKee, Sally (Pete) Huza, and Terry (Debbie) McKee. He’s further survived by brother-in-law Jim (Sue) Campbell; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Gary) Jensen and Anna Campbell; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.
Floyd is preceded in death by his parents; his brother William; sisters-in-law, Carol McKee and Patricia Campbell Zimmerman; brother-in-law, Gary Campbell.
