Francis John Thayer, age 86, of Genoa, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at Vernon Memorial Hospital on January 14th, 2025. Born on April 30th, 1938, to August and Minnie Thayer, Francis lived a full life and was defined by his dedication to the outdoors, a good western, his deep love for his family, and his hardworking spirit that shaped everything he did.
Francis served proudly in the National Guard and was a valued member of the American Legion Post 246 in Genoa. For 46 years, he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad, earning the prestigious 1982 Presidential Award for his outstanding and dedicated service.
An avid outdoorsman, Francis had a lifelong love for hunting, fishing, and especially working on the farm. The land was his heart, and he found joy tending to it, a connection that was rooted deep in his soul. It was on the farm that Francis truly came alive - where the simple rhythms of life, like the changing seasons and hard work, brought him peace.
Francis was also known for his passion for softball, a sport he played for over 50 years, earning him the nickname "Ducky," a name that will forever carry with it memories of his spirited presence. He was an unforgettable soul whose warmth, humor, and strength left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
