Henry Carl Haugrud, 84, of La Farge, passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2026.
Henry was born on May 23, 1941 in Viroqua, WI to Henry and June (Hansen) Haugrud. Henry spent his childhood on the family farm outside of Avalanche. He graduated from La Farge High School in 1959, where he met his high school sweetheart. Henry married Alta (Henry) on June 18, 1960 and they were together for over 65 years.
Henry joined the 32nd Infantry Red Arrow division of the National Guards while still in high school. During his time they were called into active duty while stationed in Fort Lewis, WA from 1961-62 during the Berlin Crisis. Following his service, Henry and Alta returned to La Farge where they would continue Alta’s family farm. Henry worked a variety of jobs over the years. He drove truck and worked in the warehouse Tobacco Pool, spent some time at Badger Ordinance. He also hauled fuel, did carpentry work, worked for Nuzum’s lumber yard, and for many years Henry was a dairy farmer. Henry and his son, Carl, created C&H Excavating where they were known for their digging, hauling and work in the cemeteries across the county and beyond.
He is survived by his wife, Alta. Three children; Carl (Lesa) Haugrud, Wayne (Tracey) Haugrud and Lisa (John) Young all of La Farge. 4 grandchildren: Holly (Ron) Huebsch, Mary (Evan) Peters, Clara Young and John Young. 6 great-grand children; McKala, Chelsey, Logan, June, Boone, and Blane.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11 AM at the La Farge Free Methodist Church with military rites. A visitation will be held from 9 AM until the time of service. Burial will take place in the Bear Creek Cemetery.
