Henry Levi Rich born in Grand Rapids, MN on April 14, 1937, entered eternal rest peacefully at home, at the age of 88, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, surrounded by family.
He married Susan Jane Peterson on May 20, 1989, in Johnson Creek, WI.
Henry had many talents. He loved hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. He was also fond of wood working and was a member of the Army National Guard.
Henry moved to Milwaukee in 1954 and began his career at Patrick Cudahy where he worked his way up through various positions. After 43 ½ years he retired as a Power House Engineer.
After retirement Henry and Susan established their homestead in Viroqua, WI on what they call “Heavenly Hill.” Here they became a vital part of the community and made many life-long friendships. Henry loved to sit at the kitchen counter to enjoy the birds, deer, and the beauty of his valley. He loved seeing his family enjoy the land and stream and took pride and joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Henry loved his two cats, Andy a/k/a Stripper and Opie a/k/a Pug Nose.
Henry touched the lives of many and he will be missed very much, especially his mischievous grin and sparkling blue eyes.
Henry is survived by his loving wife Susan; son Edward (Susan); three grandchildren: Brian (Rachel), Jessica (Craig), and Joshua; three great grandchildren: Grayson and Thea Holmes, and Walter Rich; brothers-in-law: David, Duane (Sandy), Don, and Dan Peterson, and Joe Herr; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Ida; siblings: Jim, Gordon, Donald, John, Ruth, Florence, Leona, Loretta, and Elizabeth; and sister-in-law Janet Peterson.
A special thank you to Dr. Kalinosky, Dr. Wilson, and all the staff for going above and beyond with not only taking care of his health, but him as an individual.
Family will be holding a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Viroqua VFW (751 S. Washington St., Viroqua, WI) from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. with a time of sharing at noon.
