James Glenn Cathey, known affectionately to his friends as Magic Glenn, passed away peacefully and naturally at the age of 84 on March 23, 2021 from a heart attack. He left the earthly realm in La Crosse, Wisconsin at Mayo Health Systems in the early hours of the morning. Glenn was born on November 16, 1936 in Arkansas to parents Helen and Byron Cathey, and had Dona May and Billie Jean Cathey as siblings.
For many years, Glenn drove trucks for a living, and always appreciated seeing the sites of the country he loved. He was married to Terri Bombardier for over two decades from the early seventies into the nineties. As for hobbies, Glenn was especially fond of playing both Poker and pool, and would be the first to hustle you with a smile with you being none the wiser. He spent a large portion of his life living in California before relocating to Coon Valley, Wisconsin for the golden years of his life. Glenn was known for marching to the beat of his own drum, as well as his infinite capacity for kindness and generosity. You could often find Glenn fishing, playing guitar, spending quality time with his many family members, and holding court with his friends while having a good time. Glenn was a proud father and doting grandfather and great-grandfather, and loved sharing stories with his family.
He is survived by sister Dona May Cathey, as well as daughter Kimberly Voehl, sons James and Anthony Cathey, son-in-law Chuck Voehl, and daughters-in-law Cat Lafuente and Mary Cathey. Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren Dusten, Rebekah, Hannah, and Clayten Voehl, and Vanessa Aspenson, as well as grandchildren-in-law Jeffrey Aspenson, and Cate and Hayley Voehl. He is also survived by great grandchildren Elly Simonson, and Arionna, Evelyn, Cooper Voehl, with one more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his sister Billie Jean Cathey, son Marc Cathey, and daughter Joann Owens.
