Jim Holmberg Obituary

Ralph “Jim” James Holmberg, 81, of Readstown went to his heavenly home on October 4, 2025 as a result of Lewy Body Dementia.

He will be remembered as a kind man willing to help anyone that was down on their luck. Jim had an entrepreneurial spirit which allowed him to have multiple businesses and to be self-employed most of his life. He also enjoyed theology and politics.

Jim was born to Ralph and Esther (Looker) Holmberg on October 19, 1943 in River Grove Illinois.  Some highlights of growing up in the 50’s were good music, pretty girls and fast cars. Jim excelled in gymnastics, making it to state competition in high school. Upon graduation Jim joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Fairbanks Alaska. There he married his high-school sweetheart Carole Ulrich and eventually resided in Colorado, where Michelle and David were born. After a successful HVAC business got too demanding he decided to move to the driftless region of Wisconsin to enjoy a slower life. His many business ventures included building and selling log homes, owning a laundromat, managing apartment rentals, buying and selling used cars, while continuing to do HVAC work. At one point Jim became known as the L.E.D guy as he sold all kinds of L.E.D. lights at his used car shop. Jim enjoyed the Kickapoo Valley life where he  resided until his final days.

He is survived by his sister Jackie Bruns of Illinois; brother David of Oregon; first wife, Carole and daughter Michelle (Chris) Ernst; second wife Jeannie Storbakken Holmberg; daughter-in- law Christina (Ray) Klug; step-children: Jacob (Abi) Storbakken, Sarah (Tim) Farrell, Angela (Jens-Peter) Transo, and Luke Storbakken; grandchildren: Mitchell, Preston (Vanessa), Benjamin, Jessilyn Ernst; Adam (Julianne), Holly, Dawson, Jonathan (Havilah) Holmberg; Isaac (Grace), Tullen, Andrew, William Farrell; Serena Storbakken and Amaia Transo; Sarah, Sequoia, and Seth Storbakken; and Sophia Storbakken; great-grandchildren Josie Holmberg and Jesse Farrell.

Jim was preceded in death by his son David (2011).

The family wishes to thank the Stepping Stones program at the Tomah VA Medical Center for their tender care and the many neighbors and friends that have been so supportive during the difficult years of this illness.
