John Peter Goeke of rural Viroqua joined his precious Savior Thursday, May 29th, 2025, surrounded by his family.
John’s deep love for his Lord drove him to live his life loving and serving Christ and others through the power of the Holy Spirit.
John was born to Robert and Erika Goeke November 7th, 1966. He was born and raised in suburban Chicago where he moved through school quickly, continuing to college at age 16. During that time, he met his treasured wife, Virginia. Upon graduating from Bradley University, they ventured to Denver and were married June 18th, 1988. Returning to Chicago area in 1990 and eventually falling in love with Driftless Wisconsin where they began farming and raising their family in 1994. Bringing their highly diverse products weekly to Dane County farmers market for the last 29 years.
John had enjoyed many different career paths from sous Chef to mailman, and about everything in between. When not on the farm you could find him over the stove top, holding his grand-baby, in the bleachers of Sylvan's sports games, biking and playing chess with David. He shared the gospel diligently with his wife by his side. He served with Gideons International sharing the Word of God. John's love for God and love for neighbor led him to sacrificially serve the Abolition of Abortion movement. This brought John and family to share the good News of Jesus in many states and situations. Most recently John and David served in Washington D.C. with abolitionists from all over the U.S.
John is survived by his wife Virginia; sons Sylvan (Breanna & granddaughter Alayna) and David; brother Robert; niece Ellie; & nephew Robbie (and family).
John was preceded in death by his daughters: Seraphina, Grace, & Rebecca; and his parents.
John loved deeply, and will be missed by many.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 6, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Viroqua Church of Christ. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. A meal to follow.

1 Timothy 12-17
I thank Him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because He judged me faithful, appointing me to His service, though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display His perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in Him for eternal life. To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
