How do you write an obituary for someone you’ve known forever but, in the end, you realize you know little about them? You keep it short and sweet, just like Judy.
Judith “Judy” Mary (Ehlers) Phinney, 81, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, as a result of a car accident in Viroqua, WI. She was born on March 6, 1942, to James and Alice (Cooney) Ehlers in Illinois and was raised in Rhinelander.
Judy was precious to her friends. Everyone who frequented the Viroqua Eagles was quite familiar with Judy and everyone knew her by name, if you didn’t, she would end up telling you by the end of your first drink. Judy loved her fur babies and took great pride in telling several stories (over and over again) about them. If you’ve never heard a “Puppers” story then you never knew Judy. Judy had a love for the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and old cars. She was always trying to wheel and deal or make a great sale. Judy had many friends which vastly included her “Eagle” family. She truly was one of a kind and will be missed.
Judy worked at Bethel Home in Viroqua in the Physical Therapy Department, Viroqua Mc Donalds in the dining room, and did home care. She was an avid collector of antiques and collectables.
She is survived by her family and friends (very special friends at the Viroqua Eagles 2707), and her three dogs: Sue, Lucy, and Shadie.
Thank you to her neighbors for helping her with anything she needed and her good friends who are planning her Celebration of Life and helping with arrangements. She could not have had more loving and caring friends in her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Driftless Humane Society, Viroqua Eagles 2707, and Animal Tracks Veterinary Services.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be hosted by her dear friends on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from noon- 2 p.m. at Viroqua Eagles 2707, 216 South Rock Street, Viroqua, WI 54665.
The Roth Family Cremation Center and Funeral Services is assisting the family.
