Karl "Dave" Lundeen

Karl David Lundeen, 89, of Oconomowoc, passed away on May 23, 2026.

Karl, known to many as Dave, was born January 2, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio to Carl and Lillian Lundeen. He was a 1955 graduate of Cleveland Heights High School. He proudly served in the US Navy for four years as a machinist on the USS Antietam Aircraft Carrier. He always enjoyed sharing stories with other veterans during medical appointments at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. Dave was a proud and independent man who struggled the last few years as he battled dementia.

Dave married Nancy Hunt on July 15, 1962. They built a wonderful life together, loving each other for nearly 64 years. They raised three sons, Jon, Tim and Scott. Moving from Cleveland to Oconomowoc to California and back to Oconomowoc where they settled for nearly 50 years.

Using his mechanical skills, Dave worked at General Electric and Carnation in a variety of roles before starting his own business in furniture restoration and upholstery. His attention to fine details brought customers from around the area for over 20 years. If something needed to be fixed people knew Dave could do it.

When someone needed help, he would always lend a hand to get things done, often bringing the boys along as extra assistants. Through this he taught his sons that helping others is necessary to make the world a better place. Helping neighbors, leading workdays at church and helping with numerous Scout activities to name a few.  Weekends were meant for getting things done and having three sons meant a lot could be done. He would often say it will only take a few hours, which was usually a very low estimate.

Dave loved the outdoors. Camping as a family was important. He was involved with camping clubs in California and Wisconsin, taking the family on weekend trips to explore and socialize and get out of the house. He introduced countless fellow campers to the wonders of “pudgie pies,” a gourmet feast experienced around the campfire. He enjoyed backpacking, taking the boys into nature and sharing his love for the outdoors. He was always up for a trip down the river in a canoe as well.

The greatest lesson he taught his boys: loving and caring for mom all the time. In retirement Dave and Nancy traveled around the country in an RV built for 2. They saw almost every state, putting on over 100,000 miles throughout the years, even a several month trip to Alaska to top it all off. If there was a road to Hawaii, they would have made it there too. They enjoyed the time they spent together and all the people they would meet and visit over the years.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy and sons Jon, Tim and Scott(Carla) and grandsons, Ryan and Patrick and granddaughter, Annie.
