Kenneth Hrubec Obituary

Kenneth J Hrubec, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born on November 25, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Arthur Hrubec and the late Gertrude (Merski) Hrubec.

Ken served in the Army in the early 1970’s, stationed in Europe. After his years of service, he began his lifelong career in metal finishing. After he closed his business in Illinois, Ken retired to Viroqua where he enjoyed maintaining his little rural paradise. Ken was an avid stamp collector and spent many hours carefully organizing his finds. He was also artistic, primarily expressing that with various woodworking projects. He enjoyed cooking for himself and together with his daughter, and he rarely found a problem around the house or yard that he couldn’t craft a solution for. Ken cherished and looked forward to every moment he spent with his daughter and granddaughter.

Ken is survived by his children, Jeff (Nancy) Hrubec, Adam Hrubec, and Christy Nader; grandchildren: Jocelyn Hrubec, Micah Hrubec, Izzy Hrubec, and Maddie Nader; brother, Rick (Teresa) Hrubec and their children: Mike, Paul, Dan, and Rachel; his siblings: Kathy, John, Ed, and Thom. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Ann.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Philatelic Society, to support Ken’s passion for stamp collecting. The organization is part of the Amazon Smile donation program, or a direct tribute donation can be submitted by filling out the form available on their website classic.stamps.org/Tribute-Gift . Individuals honored or memorialized are listed in the annual special recognition issue of The American Philatelist.
