LaNah Wheeler Obituary

LaNah Wheeler, 73, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024 at home in Soldiers Grove. She was surrounded by her husband and daughters.

She was born in Madison, WI on January 7, 1951 to Charles and Delma Robson. She was married to Michael "Mike" Wheeler on April 3, 1971 at Midvale Community Lutheran Church.

LaNah grew up in Madison, where her family home was on Anchor Dr. on the eastside of town. She and her sisters spent most of their time outside with their friends from the neighborhood, and she was able to maintain these friendships for decades. The Robson Family later moved to the westside where she attended Cherokee Middle School and West High School (Class of '69).

A favorite story Mike likes to tell about LaNah is the first time he saw her. While on his way to school every morning he saw a pretty blonde girl walking with her friends and wondered who she was. The following year, fate placed them next to each other in study hall at West High and the rest is history.

Mike and LaNah began their married life in Madison, WI. LaNah worked as a Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and Mike was a Scientific Glassblower at the UW. Their daughters, Jenny and Christi, were born in Madison. Shortly after Christi was born, Mike received a job offer at  Arizona State University. So they packed up and moved to Arizona in 1975. Daughter, Sara, arrived in 1976 and the family settled into their home in Mesa, AZ. The next 30 years were spent raising the girls. LaNah and her family enjoyed many years of camping all around Arizona.

With retirement on the horizon, Mike and LaNah began looking for land in rural Wisconsin. They landed in the Soldiers Grove area and began building their dream home in 2001. By 2006, they made it their permanent home. LaNah spent the next 18 years making memories with Mike and the grandkids. She also loved spending time with friends and neighbors, with whom she shared lots of laughs and beers.

LaNah's favorite place to be was in the presence of her family and pets. She enjoyed gardening and making their yard a beautiful space. A devoted nature lover, she was known for taking in stray animals. Her generosity and fun-loving spirit was enjoyed by all who surrounded her.

LaNah is survived by her sister, Sue; husband Michael; along with daughters: Jenny, Christi and Sara; her 7 grandchildren: Griffin, Madison, Mia, Dylan, David, Collin and Lexi. LaNah is also survived by three nephews; Patrick, Clinton and Jake; and niece, Amy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Nancy.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and social workers at the Mayo Clinic in La Crosse as well as the amazing nurses and caregivers from the St. Croix Hospice.

The Wheeler family will be hosting a celebration of life for LaNah on  Sunday, August 4, 2024 from 1-3 p.m. at The Old Oak Inn in Soldiers Grove, WI.
