Larry Gene Rockwell, 71, passed away on February 11, 2025, in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Born on March 3, 1953, in Westby, Wisconsin, Larry lived a life filled with laughter, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to those around him.
Affectionately known as “the medicine man,” Larry spent decades delivering medication throughout Vernon County for Dahl Pharmacy and later VMH Pharmacy. He had a knack for turning a routine delivery into a moment of joy—greeting everyone with a smile, a warm hello, and inevitably saying something ridiculous just to make them laugh. It was his specialty. He truly found a way to get paid for doing what he loved: connecting with people.
Beyond his time as a “real pill pusher” (cue the eye roll), Larry also worked at the Westby Creamery and Webster Lumber. No matter where he was employed, his work ethic and ability to brighten someone’s day remained constant.
Larry’s faith played a central role in his life. He served as an elder at the Viroqua Church of Christ for several years, teaching youth groups and leading them on adventures across the Midwest. He had a gift for praying out loud and often stepped in to fill pastoral roles when needed. His devotion to his faith and community was evident in everything he did.
Larry is survived by his son Mark Rockwell; daughter Julie Hallam; “daughter number two” Angela Riedeman, caretaker extraordinaire Heather Ries; grandchildren Naja Ruth, Draven Scott, Elias Levi, and Suraya Jewel Hallam; brother Gary (Kathy) Rockwell; and nieces and nephews: Karen, Bobby, Brian, David, Connie, Chris, Melinda, and Jeff.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret Rockwell; parents Harvey and Dorothy Rockwell; parents-in-law Freeman and Ruth Rusk, son-in-law Jake Hallam, siblings Donald Rockwell, Kenneth Rockwell, Mervin Rockwell, Joyce Joosten, David Rockwell, and Sharon Rockwell; nephew Keith Rockwell; and niece Amy Butler.
A tribute service will be held on Larry’s birthday, Monday, March 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at La Farge Free Methodist Church in La Farge, Wisconsin. Pastor Mark Phillips will officiate. Friends and family may call at 10:00 AM until the time of services. Roth Family Cremation Center has been amazing assisting the family with arrangements.
Larry’s humor and warmth left an indelible mark on all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who were fortunate enough to share in his laughter, light and love.
