Lois Tryggestad Obituary

Lois Ann (Getter) Tryggestad was born December 7, 1933, to Earl and Fay (Favor) Getter.  She attended Viroqua Public School graduating in 1952.  Lois married Roger Tryggestad on June 4, 1952, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua, WI.  They were married for 47 years.  Roger passed away February 3, 2000.

Lois was a mother and a housewife the years that Roger hauled milk.  Later they bought an A & W in Clarinda, Iowa, living there 9 years before returning to Wisconsin to farm in the Westby area for 2 years.  Roger and Lois purchased the Viking Inn in 1972 and worked there until retirement in 1997, at which time their sons, David and John, purchased it.

Lois loved her volunteer work including the Red Cross blood bank for 35 years.  While wintering in Texas she volunteered at Regional and Knapp Hospitals for 29 years.  Lois worked in the gift shop and at the clinic desk at Vernon Memorial Hospital as well as the Hospice program for 26 years.

She thoroughly enjoyed spending time playing cards, board games, dominos, and reading.  Lois was an excellent cook, known for good food and especially her bread.

Lois was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Friends of Vernon Memorial, a non-active member of the VFW Post 3032, and a member of Beta Sigma Phi while living in Iowa.

In 2007 while in Texas, she met Erv Von Sprecken.  They enjoyed summer weekends at Paradise Park, Iowa and winter trips to Southern Comfort in Weslaco, Texas.  They had many friends and had good times playing cards and board games.  Lois and Erv were married in a church ceremony on November 1, 2013 and enjoyed each other’s company for many years until age and health matters separated them.  Erv passed away on his 88th birthday, January 17, 2023.

Lois is survived by four children:  daughter Susan Evans of Omaha, NE; sons: David (Laura) of Viroqua, WI, Ronald (Jane) of Denver, CO, and John (Karen) of Viroqua, WI; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Dick Albrecht, La Crosse, WI; and many friends in Wisconsin and Texas.

Lois was preceded in death by husband, Roger Tryggestad and Erv Von Sprecken; parents Earl and Fay Getter; stepmother Bonnie Getter; brothers Lealand and Truman Getter; son-in-law Don Evans; infant grandson Alan Andrew Tryggestad; in-laws Lyle and Ethel Tryggestad; brother-in-law Wyman Tryggestad; sisters-in-law: Eloda (Tryggestad) Albrecht, Janice (Jim) Hauge, MaryAnn (Ed) Hanson, and Jeanne Tryggestad.
