Mary Miller Obituary

Mary Miller (Jacobson)

August 15, 1955 – December 3, 2024

Mary Miller, of Viroqua, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024 with her daughter by her side. Born in Elgin, Illinois, on August 15, 1955, to Betty Atkinson and Lawrence Jacobson, Mary lived a life full of purpose, love, and unwavering dedication to her family, patients, and close friends.

Mary's career was marked by compassion, expertise, and a commitment to service. After earning her BSN from Viterbo University, she spent over 30 years as a registered nurse. With a passion for lifelong learning, Mary returned to Viterbo University earning her Master’s in Servant Leadership. In addition to her nursing career, Mary’s adventurous spirit led her to become a licensed auctioneer and appraiser. She was always fascinated by antiques and the art of collecting unique, old, and rare items.

Known for her strong will, determination, and unwavering belief in her family, Mary always put them first. She supported her daughters in every dream, no matter how unconventional. As a grandmother, Mary’s love and devotion were evident in all she did. Despite the challenges she faced, she made sure to show up for her grandchildren in every way she could and make sure they knew how much she loved them.

Mary’s closest and dearest friend was Linzi Gronning, with whom she shared a bond that lasted decades. Their friendship was established on trust, loyalty, laughter, and forgiveness. They spent countless hours on the phone, always there to offer support, advice, and comfort. Mary and Linzi had each other’s backs through thick and thin, and their unwavering friendship was steadfast until the very end.

Mary and Zeke’s 40+ years of marriage were a partnership built on mutual support, shared dreams, and enduring love. Together, they navigated many adventures, both joyous and challenging, and their bond remained unbreakable.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Duane “Zeke” Miller; daughters, Linzi Miller and Ashley Elwill (spouse Frank Elwill, whom Mary considered a son); grandchildren, Letty and Everett Elwill; and her best friend, Linzi Gronning.  She was preceded in death by her parents Betty Atkinson and Lawrence Jacobson.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Vernon Memorial Hospital, Norseland Nursing Home, and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Friday, December 13th, from 1-3 PM at Roth Family Cremation Center and Funeral Services in Viroqua. All who knew her are invited to attend and share in this time of remembrance.
