Mary Solverson Obituary

Mary Louise Solverson, age 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 with her family by her side.

She was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin to Sigfred and Elizabeth Swenson on November 14, 1950 where she lived on the family dairy farm in West Prairie. That is where she developed her lifelong love of animals and family. She was baptized and confirmed at Northwest Prairie Lutheran church in West Prairie. Mary graduated from Viroqua High School in 1968 and attended secretarial school in Winona, MN. She excelled in her work as a medical transcriptionist. Later she transitioned into her role as a caregiver and CNA in local assisted living settings. This was her true calling. Mary’s kindness and compassion were on full display as she treated those she cared for like family.

Mary was a wonderful mother to two daughters, Jodi and Shelley, while they lived on their farm in rural Viroqua. She enjoyed supporting them in sports, 4-H, leadership roles or whatever else life put before them. Her unconditional support and love were unwavering. Later in life she moved to Vancouver, WA. by Jodi and her family. She was also delighted to have 3 grandchildren Lydia, Wyatt, and Dillan. They brought her so much joy.

Though her battle with cancer was hard on her body, it didn’t diminish her bright spirit, love of God, family and friends. She would send cards and visit with people and that gave her great joy. She had a laugh that was contagious and had a great sense of humor. She always enjoyed her trips back home to Wisconsin to see her friends and family. She also had many adventures with Jodi, Josh and Lydia. Her kindness and thoughtfulness were displayed in countless ways to the many lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughters, Jodi (Josh) Stahly, Vancouver, WA and Shelley (Roy Jr.) Gunn, Viroqua, WI.; grandchildren Lydia Stahly and Wyatt and Dillan Gunn; sister Eldoris Ekern; brother Roger (Karen) Swenson; nephews and special friend Janet Myhre.

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, Sig and Betty Swenson; and her brother-in-law Raymond Ekern.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at PeaceHealth SW Medical Center in Vancouver, WA for their compassionate care in her final days.

Funeral arrangements for family and friends will be Saturday, June 29th at North West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Viroqua, WI. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm with a funeral service to follow at 1pm.  Burial will be in the North West Prairie Cemetery immediately following the service.
