Merle L. Solverson, 103, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 26, 2022, at Norseland Nursing Home, Westby, WI.
She was born to Thomas and Lena (Anderson) Thompson on September 15, 1918. She married Frederick V. Solverson on February 11, 1937, in Rockford, Illinois. They farmed in the town of Franklin their entire married life. She was a member of Immanual Lutheran Church of Viroqua.
Merle loved music. She taught herself piano from the radio in the 1930’s. She could play by ear and notes. She memorized many tunes from the thirties and forties. She had an organ she would play at Maplewood and the residents would love hearing her play with her door open.
Merle is survived by her daughter, Luanne Mc Bride of Waterloo, WI; two sons, Richard (Debra) and Frederick S. Solverson, both of Viroqua; seven grandchildren: Sheri Hults, Susan (Marty) Kosobucki, Lisa Gilman, James (Cassia) Solverson, Ryan (Flora) Solverson, Britt (Angie) Solverson, and Kristin (Josh) Symes; twenty great-grandchildren: Sara (Nick) Ozer, Jack and Erin Lubinsky, Kyle and Kaden Kosobucki, Mitchell, Matthew, and Cole Hults, Zach Gilman, Jack, Leah, Dax, Kyra, Trygve, and Gavin Solverson, Lucy and Oliver Symes, Analeise, Jordan and Julia Solverson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Lewis, Blaine, Stewart, Woodrow, and Morris; five sisters: Mae, Margie, Wilma, Bernice, and Vivian; and two grandsons, Rick Lubinsky and Frederick R. Solverson.
A Celebration of Life is being held Friday, July 1, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michele Engh officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will take place in the Liberty Pole Cemetery.
