Our beloved father, Michael Edward Gernetzke entered into God’s Kingdom on Thursday, November 2, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.
Michael was born to Maxine and Ed Gernetzke on August 20, 1952, in El Paso, TX. When Michael was younger, he and his family moved to Reeseville, WI where Michael developed his strong work ethic and family values. Michael attended UW Whitewater and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. After graduating, he moved to Fort Atkinson, WI, where he found his career as the Administrator of Countryside Nursing Home in Jefferson, WI for 25 years. After his retirement, Michael continued working at Goodwill Industries (Fort Atkinson), St Anthony (Menomonee Falls), and Kohl’s Department Store (Madison, WI).
Michael had two children, Sarah Therese and Michael Lawrence. He always put family first and was a dedicated father. Michael was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren Christopher, Regan and Lincoln. In 2006, he met Margaret Miller, who awakened him to a life of laughter, exploring, and most of all love. Margaret loved him dearly, opened her heart, friends and family to enjoy Michael’s light.
Michael was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. He loved the church and loved sharing the love and warmth of our savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible. He was a part of Knights of Columbus and an avid member of St Peter Catholic Parish (Madison, WI).
Michael joins his father Ed Gernetzke in Heaven. He is survived by many loving family members, including his mother Maxine; brothers Jim and John; sister Gail; children Sarah and Michael; and grandchildren Christopher, Regan, and Lincoln.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church (5001 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison, WI) on November 18, 2023, at 11:00am. A visitation precedes at 9:00am, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be scheduled for a future date.
