Michelle L. Olson

Michelle was born in Viroqua on March 7, 1976, to Michael and Lorna (Thompson) Olson.  She was confirmed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and graduated from Viroqua High School.  She went on to get her bachelor’s in biology from UW Eau Claire. Michelle was a Vet Tech for 18 years starting at Rising Sun Vet Clinic and later became co-owner at Ridge to Rivers Animal Clinic.  She truly loved working with animals.

Michelle married Art Lander on July 18, 2020. Together they enjoyed the outdoors and many special trips to Hayward, Wisconsin.

Some of Michelle’s true passions included horses, the outdoors, and reading. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, knitting, and crocheting, blessing many people with the beautiful pieces she lovingly created.  She loved traveling and her adventures took her to Japan, Peru, Europe, and Mexico.

Michelle had a beautiful smile, heart, and soul and loved spending time with family. She especially cherished times spent with her niece Adia and nephew Cooper.  

Michelle is survived by her husband, parents; sister Angela (Courtney) Burish; niece Adia; nephew Cooper Burish; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Michelle is proceeded in death by her grandparents, David (Bud) and Lorraine Olson, Glen and Agnes Thompson; and two cousins, David Olson and Emily Olson.

Michelle was a warrior in her three-year battle with a very rare cancer. She never complained and just kept on enduring the fight. 

The family would like to thank the staff of the Viroqua Hospital, the Viroqua Gundersen Clinic, and Dr. Gil Harmon and staff at Gundersen Hospital and Clinic in La Crosse for their wonderful care.

A special thanks to the Prayer Warriors for all the words of encouragement and support, and always being there for Michelle and the family. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m.  with Pastor Lisa Shank officiating.  A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.

Fireflies

I was thinking of fireflies today, and it made me think of you.

Because you always shine bright at the times you

need to comfort others and yourself. 

And even though alone you aren’t that big of a force,

the more people you affect positively,

they will carry it on like dominoes.

And you always try your best,

 because trying less than your best

Is no good to anyone.
