Our dear mother, Monica Ann (Ehorn) Swiggum peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, while at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Richland Center on January 15th, 1948, to Arthur and Mary “Imogene” Ehorn. She was raised on the family farm in Rolling Ground, graduating from North Crawford in 1966.
After graduation, she moved to Madison where she worked as a CNA. During her time in Madison, she and Morris “Mick” Swiggum rekindled a relationship that began in high school. On April 12, 1969, the two married at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Rolling Ground, the church to which she was a lifelong, devoted member. They soon welcomed their three daughters, Melissa, Hollie, and Jaime. They made their first homes in the Star Valley/Towerville area before settling in their forever home on the flat in Soldiers Grove where she and her husband created many remodeled versions of the home they loved together.
Here, Monica provided in home day care to many local children who gave her great joy as she raised her own family. As the girls got older, she later worked as a CNA at Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home. This work inspired her to return to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse at the age of 40. She was a remarkable angel and caring for others as a nurse was an accomplishment that made her extremely proud. She continued to work as a nurse at Sannes Skogdalen for 29 years before retiring in 2017. After retirement, she found happiness in caring for her twin grandchildren and great grandson until her death.
Monica is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Steven) Carswell, Hollie (Scott) Hoffland, and Jaime (Brian) Hooverson; grandchildren, Ryan and Aidan Carswell, Dalton and Brooks Hoffland, Paige and Carter Halverson, Clayten and Laney Hooverson; great grandson Wesley Halverson; siblings, DeAnn Haggerty (Steven Lutz), John Ehorn, Joyce Iverson, and Jean (Andrew) Skrede; siblings-in-law, Sanford (Joan) Swiggum and Bonnie (Mark) Olson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Morris Swiggum, her dear friend and sister in-law, Patricia Ehorn, brother-in-law, Arlen Iverson as well as many other beloved family members.
Family will be holding funeral services at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Rolling Ground on Saturday, August 31st with visitation from 9:00am-11:00am, service at 11:00am, and burial in St. Philip's Cemetery. A luncheon to celebrate her life will follow in the church basement.
