Philip Schultz Obituary

Philip “Bud” Schultz, 92, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully in his home on January 15, 2026.

Bud was born on December 7, 1933, to Reuben and “Winnie” (Alvina) Schultz. He was raised in Fountain City and in 1941, his family moved to Genoa. Bud often spoke fondly of growing up down by the river and of his favorite dog, Sport.

On May 31, 1961, Bud married Darlene (Pennel-Wedwick) and became a father to her 3 children. He worked hard to care for his family. For many years, Bud and Darlene owned and operated the Kickapoo Casino Tavern in Soldiers Grove. After selling the tavern, Bud began working in real estate sales and tax assessing.

Bud enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, including hunting, bowling, baseball, and mushroom hunting, but was most well known for his love of fishing. He found great joy in being outdoors and enjoying creation. Bud also found great joy in making people laugh with his memorable jokes.

The decision Bud treasured the most was the decision to be baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1969. His faith was central in his life. He found his greatest joy helping others learn about his God, Jehovah, and the wonderful resurrection and life that he looked forward to in the future.

Bud is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene Schultz; his son Stephen Schultz and his wife Barbara; his daughter Roxanne Bredlau and her husband Joel; his son Stewart Schultz; his brother Kenneth Schultz and his wife Pat; his grandchildren Damion and Lisa Bredlau, Nicole Nadine Schultz, Stephanie and Jabin White, Melissa and Dustin Nichols, Tina Marie Diaz, Jennifer and Paul Wuebben, Megan Bredlau, and Stewart Harley Schultz; along with several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Alvina “Winnie” Schultz, and his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and George Jambois.

Bud will be fondly remembered for his love for Jehovah, his devotion to his family, his appreciation for creation, and his joyful spirit. His family and friends look forward with confidence to the fulfillment of Jehovah’s promise of the resurrection.
