Randall Dean Traastad

Randall Dean Traastad, age 71, passed away Monday, July 13, 2026, at Meadowbrook in Black River Falls with his niece by his side.

Randy was born on November 2, 1954, to Orville and Magdalene (Hagen) Traastad. He graduated from Westby High School in 1973. He enjoyed playing football and received a letter of recognition for the sport. He was also active in FFA and the 4-H program.

Randy completed the Dairy Herd Management program at Wisconsin Indian Head Technical College in 1976. He was in partnership with Doug and Thore in dairy farming for over 20 years. He really enjoyed selecting quality registered Holstein cows for the farming operation. He then drove semi-truck for long distance hauling from the Midwest to the east and west coasts for over 20 years.

Randy was an avid Packer Fan, and if the Packers were playing, you could count on him being in front of a TV cheering them on.

He was known for his big heart, and you could guarantee a phone call several days before your birthday, with him wishing you a “Happy Birthday,” before you got a little bit older.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Magdalene Traastad, his sisters: Pauline from Polio in 1952, Jeanne (Bob) Pierce, and Mary (Fred) Wagner.

He is survived by two brothers, Douglas (Karen) and Thore. Also survived by nieces and nephews: Kristen (Todd) Degenhardt, Laura (Seth) Meyer, Dan Traastad, Joanna (Blake) Crosby, Robb (Lialee) Pierce, Jeff Wagner, and Eric (Parris) Wagner.

The family would like to thank Cathy from Inclusa, Jennifer from Moments Hospice, and the staff at Meadowbrook and Ingelside for their amazing care of Randy. Memorials may be given directly to the charity of one’s choice. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
