Virgil Glenn Bishop, 78, of Ferryville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
He was born on July 14, 1946, to Myrtle and Gerald Bishop. He married Mary Lou Elliott on November 30, 1968 at Southwest Prairie Lutheran Church.
Virgil went to technical school for 2 years and served in the Army for 2 years. Virgil and Mary moved to Milwaukee after they were married. He worked as an ultrasonic technician for 40 years at Ladish, retiring in 2009 when he and Mary moved back to the Ferryville area.
Over the years he enjoyed bowling, golf, fixing things, and returning to the farm whenever he could to help his brother, Lawrence and other local farmers. Upon retiring he was able to do just that, fulltime.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; daughters, Jill and Joelle (Tina); brother, Bob (Kathi); sister-in-law Carol; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends… no known enemies.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lawrence.
Family would like to thank Gundersen Oncology Department, Gundersen Hospice, and all who have reached out.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Ferryville Fire and Rescue and Ferryville Antique Tractor Association.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Retreat Sportsman’s Club from 1-3 p.m. with a prayer service at 3 p.m.
